We are building a system that allows users to customize a 3D printed product without needing any CAD skills. The initial implementation allows Dungeons and Dragons players to customize and print their own miniatures. Think of the character creator from a computer game like World of Warcraft with a print button for a physical model. D&D players spend days creating their character and months playing with it. A player develops a cool backstory about a half-elf whose seaside village was attacked by maruading orcs that he drove off using his slain fathers trident but currently, when he goes to the store for the miniature, he's stuck with a mass-produced wood-elf with a bow. He buys it, and plays with it but the spell of the game is broken because the model is not what they imagined. With our product, when the customer turns up to the game with their trident half-elf and everyone else says “Nice mini!” our customer gets to say “Yeah, I made it myself” which is why it's valuable.
